Presiding DeitySri Sita Ramachandra
Lord Sri Rama, the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu, is the presiding deity of The South Indian Bhajana Samaj. He is worshipped here in His divine form alongside His beloved consort Sita Devi, His devoted brother Lakshmana, and the ever-faithful Hanuman, together forming the sacred Rama Parivar.
The temple's spiritual journey began with a beautiful Tanjore portrait of Lord Rama, lovingly procured from the Tanjore district of Tamil Nadu, establishing a deep connection to the devotional traditions of South India. As the Samaj grew in stature and devotion, this cherished portrait was eventually supplemented with magnificent stone murtis (sacred idols) that were ceremonially encased in gold, radiating an aura of divine splendour that continues to captivate devotees to this day.

Daily Rituals: The sanctum sanctorum of Sri Sita Ramachandra is the spiritual heart of the temple. Daily worship commences with the Suprabhatam (divine awakening) at dawn, followed by Abhishekam (sacred bathing), Alankaram (divine decoration), and multiple rounds of Deeparadhana (lamp offering). The evening rituals culminate in the grand Maha Deeparadhana, accompanied by the resonant chanting of Vishnu Sahasranamam and Sundara Kandam.
Festival Significance: Sri Rama Navami is the Samaj's grand multi-day celebration of Lord Rama's divine appearance. The 2026 Mahothsavam ran for ten days and included bhajans, Ramayana chanting, Sita Rama Kalyanam, Annadanam and the spectacular Swarna Jhoola ceremony.

The Divine MotherSri Raja Rajeshwari Ambal
Sri Raja Rajeshwari Ambal, also revered as Lalita Tripurasundari, is the supreme embodiment of the Divine Feminine — the Queen of Queens, the Goddess who rules over all creation. She is worshipped at the Samaj as the compassionate and all-powerful Mother who bestows grace, wisdom, and protection upon Her devotees.
The resplendent idol of Sri Raja Rajeshwari Ambal at the temple is adorned with an exquisite diamond-studded gold crown, a magnificent offering lovingly donated by devoted bhaktas whose devotion to the Divine Mother knew no bounds. This crown, encrusted with precious gems that catch the light of the deepam (sacred lamps), creates an ethereal radiance around the Goddess that leaves devotees spellbound.
"The diamond-studded gold crown adorning Sri Raja Rajeshwari Ambal was lovingly donated by devoted bhaktas, symbolising the Goddess's supreme sovereignty over all the worlds — a crown befitting the Queen of the Universe."
Navaratri — The Grand Celebration: The nine nights of Navaratri are the most sacred period at the shrine of Sri Raja Rajeshwari Ambal. The temple conducts the magnificent Shatha Chandi Maha Yagnam — a grand fire ritual involving the recitation of the Devi Mahatmyam (Chandi Path) one hundred times. This powerful ritual, performed by a large assembly of Vedic priests, is believed to invoke the supreme blessings of the Goddess for the welfare of the entire community and the world.
During Navaratri, the temple also showcases the traditional Bommai Kolu (display of sacred dolls), organises classical Carnatic music concerts, Bharatanatyam dance performances, and special Lalita Sahasranama and Kumkuma Archana ceremonies that draw devotees from across Mumbai and beyond.

The Remover of ObstaclesSri Maha Ganapathy
Sri Maha Ganapathy — the beloved elephant-headed God, the supreme Lord of all beginnings — holds a place of immense reverence at The South Indian Bhajana Samaj. As the first deity to be worshipped before any sacred undertaking, Sri Ganapathy bestows wisdom, prosperity, and the removal of all obstacles upon His devotees.
The magnificent murti of Sri Maha Ganapathy at the temple radiates a benevolent energy that draws devotees seeking new beginnings, academic success, and divine blessings for auspicious endeavours. The shrine is especially popular among students and professionals who offer prayers before examinations and important ventures.
"Sri Maha Ganapathy, the first to be worshipped in every sacred ceremony, ensures that every devotee's prayers reach the divine — for He is the gatekeeper of all blessings."
Vinayaka Chaturthi Celebrations: The grand Vinayaka Chaturthi is one of the most joyous festivals at the Samaj. Celebrations include special Maha Abhishekam with 108 offerings, Sahasranama Archana (chanting of 1,008 names of Lord Ganesha), elaborate Alankaram (divine decoration), and cultural festivities that bring the entire community together in jubilant devotion.
Special Pujas on Chaturthi: On every Chaturthi (the fourth day of each lunar fortnight), special Sankashta Hara Chaturthi pujas are conducted with Ganapathy Homam (sacred fire ritual), Modaka Nivedanam (offering of the Lord's favourite sweet), and Archana with fragrant flowers and bilva leaves. Moonrise darshan on Chaturthi evenings is considered especially auspicious.

Devotion IncarnateSri Anjaneya (Hanuman)
Sri Anjaneya — the mighty Hanuman, the immortal devotee of Lord Rama — stands as the living embodiment of unwavering devotion, selfless service, and invincible courage. As the son of Vayu (the Wind God) and Anjana Devi, Hanuman is revered as Chiranjeevi (the eternal one) who continues to protect and bless devotees of Lord Rama across all ages.
At The South Indian Bhajana Samaj, the shrine of Sri Anjaneya holds a special place in the hearts of devotees. The powerful murti depicts Hanuman in His heroic form — with the sacred mace (gada) in His hand and His chest open to reveal the images of Lord Rama and Sita Devi enshrined within His heart, symbolising that true devotion is to carry the Lord within one's very being.
"Wherever the glory of Lord Rama is sung, there stands Hanuman with folded hands and tears of devotion streaming from his eyes — the eternal servant whose love knows no bounds."
Saturday Special Darshan: Saturdays are dedicated to the worship of Sri Anjaneya at the Samaj. Special Abhishekam with sindoor (vermillion) and sesame oil is performed, followed by Hanuman Chalisa recitation and Sundara Kandam parayanam. Devotees flock to the temple on Saturdays to seek Hanuman's blessings for strength, courage, and protection from malefic planetary influences.
Hanuman Jayanti: The auspicious birthday of Lord Hanuman is celebrated with great fervour. The celebrations include dawn-to-dusk Akhand Hanuman Chalisa parayanam (continuous recitation), special Vada Mala (garland of vadas) offering, grand Abhishekam, and the recitation of Sundara Kandam in its entirety, attracting devotees from across the city.
